Hi,
Some of my friends are suggesting to for Sweden rather than UK.I have applied for that country also.Till now I managed to get placements from two ranked UK colleges(FT).Since sweden offers free education, it looks attractive on one aspect and also some universities like LUND has got a EQUIS accreditation too.But parallely, I may have to negotiate on quality, rankings, job placements etc.Is it advisable to proceed with sweden?I don't know what could be situation for candidates who are graduating by 2011 from UK.Pl reply.

Swedish schools used to be world class. But quite frankly over the last two decades even the prestigious Handells (Stockholm School of Economics) has fallen out of the top 100 unis in the world. Hard for them to compete simply because Sweden's population is so small and they dont attract enough foreign students.
Whilst you can't argue with the cost-effectiveness of free education, i would worry that employers outside of Sweden will not be able to distinguish a good school from a bad school. That will definitely hold you back in the future if you want to work elsewhere.
Still if you do decide to study there Sweden is a super nice part of the world.

Leave the rankings. Sweden's economy is damn better than Uk economy now.Check out Competitiveness report (World economic forum).Just a proof. Moreover UK is damn badly affected by recession unlike Sweden. Having Handells in your CV always helps anywhere in this world. Check out their placement report!!. Thumps up to Sweden. One more reason is there is no tuition. So no need to worry lots about ROI .Quality of education and lifestyle good.
PS: Wrong info Handells is not there in top 100 univ. I think he is saying about QS univ rankings. QS rankings not specific to certain fields. It ranks the university as a whole. How can you compare Handells a university which teaches management/economics to a university like Bristol (teaches al subjects). Of course Bristol will be ranked higher than Handells. But it makes no sense.!!!

Some of the points are valid....But at least you get 2 yrs work permit in UK after your studies but not in sweden....Except SSE others were not reputed...Universities like Lund(which is more than 100 yrs old) has EQUIS accreditation but they offer only Msc programs....Few univ like Malardalen offer MBA...and SSE stopped 1 yr MBA program and they run only 2 yr exe.MBA program. That too most of the intakes are industry sponsored and they don't offer generic MBA but MBA in energy Mgmt and so on........By picking that I think my job opportunities will shrink further....I too agree that there are some top companies like Nokia,Volvo,Ericcson etc were located in Scantinavia but job opportunities compared to UK are poor...
Still a lot has to be explored...

Ya. SSE offers executive MBA only now. If its Sweden then an MBA from SSE or Stockholm Business school will help. But still I am not convinced with your reply saying that job oppurtunities in UK are better than Sweden. Can you just tell me in which field you are interested more?. Finance/Marketing/HRM?.Tell me the field you want to work later in your life.

I am a Mechanical engineer...Willing to work in Strategic Management or Finance.....Not yet decided..But the point is I don't want to give my MBA as a compliment to my employer by choosing an offer in Engineering field...becoz my 2 lac program will become a bread winner and 20 lac program will become a bonus...

Sweden is famous for its socialist ideology that works.
In many ways, it is a better country to spend the rest of your life and is also pretty good to raise your children too.
But no way doing MBA in Sweden, they do have quality programme but in Swedish only and mostly executive programme not full-time one.
Still their marketing/finance/economics are world-class that only the very top of Britain and US can beat, by the very top i mean Oxbridge or Harvard/MIT
