Lancaster mba vs Strathclyde mba

Hi Duncan,

I have offers from strathclyde mba and Lancaster mba, with strathclyde offering better scholarship (but not making much final difference 3k).

I m having 6 yrs experience in IT consulting as data analyst and sr data engineer. I have worked for multiple well known UK clients from offshore India.

My goal post mba is to get into either roles (based on interest I develop during mba and want to look for more feasible and practical option)

1) IT consulting - senior consultant /managerial role2) product manager roles

Starth/Glasgow location would have more benefits for job market and networking than Lancaster but Lancaster has got three consultancy challenges in thier curriculum

Strathclyde mba have got wider network due to thier program being run in multiple locations (dubai)

Lancaster have got better ft ranking , economist ranking which is not the case for starthclyde after 2018.

Since my aim is to get out of India and secure a job in above field post mba in an international location targeting UK /EU

What do you suggest as per your knowledge which university serve my purpose better?

1. You are much more likely to get into IT consulting in the Big Four than into management consulting. MBB etc will hire at much better schools and the Big Four post-MBA is not a route into MBB.
2. IT consultancies tend to deliver solutions using the products of others firms and, almost certainly, you know that. Are there many product managers in IT consulting firms in the UK?

I am skeptical that you have really thought deeply about your mission, goals etc.

Study where you want to work: In the UK for the UK, in Singapore for Singapore, in a specific European country to work in a specific EU country. No-one is hiring in Glasgow for Dubai.

Thanks for the answer.
If I target IT consulting higher roles within UK,
Which university would be better ?
Strathclyde or Lancaster?

I have seen FT ranking and international mobility etc. One thing I get to hear is strathclyde is able to place students more than Lancaster with less starting or avg salary than Lancaster , Lancaster students get less jobs but more starting salary?

Does it mean strathclyde is better in terms overall employability?

This is harder than it might seem. Yes, generally the case that students with less ambitious goals, going in a straight line, get into work faster and with relatively lower salary (Warwick is a good example). Students with more ambitious transitions get placed more slowly (like LBS, or Bayes). Strathclyde MBAs get higher salary than Lancaster's.
