so guys,
update from me on my GMAT test. I got 590 just 10 more. to sum up in one word "pathetic" quant was as usual decent but verbal sucked. so now i am sure to see you all at nottingham. few ruffled feathers have now settled.
A thought has me worried a bit.Nottingham is living off its reputation. Because if you ask any senior MBA , 9/10 will suggest nottingham against Durham , but durham constantly featuring in top 30's is worrying . Not that I envy junta at durham, but it also reflects the state of health of nottingham program,They better pull up their socks and reinvigorate the program.( also we are coming ) Nottingham featuring at 100 in ft ranking is a standing testimonial of that fact.
HS -- you being in UK , Are laptops cheaper there , many of my friends suggest London (duty free) etc . guide us bro.
just a passing thought , Nottingham vs Leeds.

Reply to HS,
As u seem to suggest that the ad com should take into account you and only YOUR achievements into considerations. But achievements like earnings, plaudits , brilliance are relative factors. People have to be tested on a common platform . I believe GMAT provides that.( i am not a great proponent of GMAT's perfection) for example Fresher Vs experienced debate. Gmat etc settle that in a way that fresher will definitely have to score 700 as compared to 550-600 for a 5-7 year Pro.
Alos look at Uk trends , LSE< LBS

Well that was from future employment prospective. When somebody has to employ you then why will they care about ur classmates brilliance?so high gmat score doesn't mean ul get employed as MBA grad. Good scores are very important there is no second doubt about it. what i meant is for a MS course yes only good score will get u a good place probably.but not in MBA well thats just to the trend i saw. very very good score doesn't give direct ticket.but you would imagine a person with good score will be relatively smart enuf to polish themselves in all the ways.
well im not bro :) and i guess that makes me lil dumb when it comes to keeping track of laptop prices :) but check in http://www.pcworld.co.uk/

this will give u idea of what prices are.If ask me US is heaper to get a laptop if u have to choose between india and uk unless its sale time or some big deal is out its better to get it in india.
problem is u need to keep ur eyes open for deals and that is really annoying bt it does pay to have that kind of patience

Nottingham looks good I think.

sanjay times survey puts cardiff before durham... now that makes it really dodgy .... guardian one is still consistent with other rankings... i guess best is FT stick to it. like u said as long as its in top 100 we shouldn't fare that bad

Hey friends,
doing lots of research on the net , was amazed to find so many people ready to join nottingham, also variety of programs like M arch.M in Indl electronics . Masters in .. so many. I did nt know that it was such a popular choice. I had applied by FT rankings. finally landed a rejection from Warwick , with a small catch. that they can take up my application in case of no confirmations upto 14 th august. and I recheck with them on 25 august.also i have to have a interview in person that means I have to be in UK by then. So real complicated. Frankly, I dont believe anyones going to let warwick offer go.HS what do you say? And sunjay, like last year there were 86 guys at notts , so each year do the numbers keep on fluctuating ?( also for other B schools ( say warwick )
This is a very good and advanced forum. Thanks to you guys, HS and Sunjay. btw I checked your profile on facebook , sanjay you are a pro. Finance whiz ( cant say kid ) it looks. looking forward to see you guys.
P.S HS : laptops and stuff. I better get a fully loaded one (with essential s/w and stuff). Cannot get anything cheaper than India except for maybe dubai.Just feels stupid to install all the stuff overall again......

Private accomodation could turn out cheaper depending upon the deal you get. You could go as luxury as you would like as opposed to what an university will provide you. Although you might end up paying your own electricity, heat, hot water, cable and internet on top of rent and food. University accomodation will be based on the spec like for 1 person or a family and the spec is pretty much defined already, take it or leave it. University accomodation are supposedly closer to the school so you save on commute and time. Also good for socializing as compared to private accomodation which are limited by the surrounding neighbourhood. Cleanliness will depend on individuals and roommates, I am not sure if university provides cleaning service, if I were to speculate I think they would as opposed to you having to pay for it if you choose private accomodation and safety will depend on the area and your attitude like in any city I assume, although university should be safer.

VISA from India:
I believe that the visa procedure is pretty much simple. It is Tier 4 visa for higher education. You submit docs to VFS , they process it in 8-10 days and grant visa.I have read on the VFS/ British embassy website that around 80-88 % applications are cleared by the 6th day from application. Though you will have to go to VFS to provide Biometric data,it is no worry.

H.S -- I called warwick , today they say a few seats are vacant till now and today is the last day to accept applications(though formal deadline was 31st july) . that proves they may increase intake or few offer letters are past their validity. Say, situation like warwick guys going to LBS , LSE , IMD , IE or HEC or deciding for US etc.
