What are your career goals? What questions do you have?
Posted Jun 01, 2012 18:12
@Duncan: Thank you for responding.
I am looking for a career in Consulting. I am an International applicant. Educated degree level with Mechanical majors.
Post MBA job location: Preferably UK, but no reservations.
I have about 6 years work exp. (non UK)
2 year - Team Lead -Utilities & Plant Maintenance
1.5 years - Technical Analyst - IT Application Support
2.5 years - Sales and Marketing - Key Accounts Management (Industrial Products)
My MBA expense is restricted by budget and location.I would live in western Leicestershire Hence I want to make a better choice.
I hold offer from these universities. Help me choose!

What sort of consulting do you want to do?
Posted Jun 01, 2012 20:05
@ Duncan: Management Consulting,Consulting for Large Turn-key project companies. I am also interested in Business Strategy and Planning.
Posted Jun 03, 2012 14:25
Do you want to work for "management" consultancies (like McKinsey), IT consulancies (like IBM or Accenture) or the consulting wings of accounting firms (like Deloitte). They will recruit from different schools.
Posted Jun 03, 2012 16:06
@Duncan: I want to work for either management or IT consultancies. Please suggest.
Posted Jun 03, 2012 17:46
Neither school feeds, in notable numbers, into strategic management consulting companies like McKinsey, Bain, Booz or BCG. Both of them feed into IBM, which has a strong tech consulting business.
Birmingham seems to have a stronger relationship with Accenture and the big four than Aston; partly it leverages its better connections for pre-experience recruiting.
Interesting, Aston has stronger links with a number of banks, including Lloyds, Deutsche Bank and HSBC.

Thanks for the prompt reply..
I have to go for my MBA this year only due to some personal issue so kindly suggest me the better choice between two of them.
How is Graduate school of business, University of Cape Town in comparison of these two if I will consider that for Jan Intake.
Looking forward to hear from you soon.

I think UCT could be a better fit, especially if you want to work in India later.
Posted Jun 09, 2012 19:37
But I am more inclined towards UK nd have no issue working in UK, in case I will be getting a job out there after new visa rule comes up...
Posted Jun 10, 2012 08:13
Kindly suggest me the decision between Aston and Strathclyde in terms of:
Global Employment opportunity(especially in UK or India)
Reputation among recruiters in UK
Career Prospects
Return of investment.
I am also confused as these business school started scholarship for Indian students from this year only, This is to attract Indian students as they are more inclined towards USA and Canada after announcement of new visa rule in UK or its the genuine effort from B-School to aid the merit students.
Looking forward for quick response

You can compare both schools in the FT 2010 ranking. While their absolute results will be different now, their relative position don't be so different: http://rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/global-mba-rankings-2010
Strathclyde looks better on most variable, including international mobility.

Although Strathclyde Business School offer good MBA program, but i would recommend Birmingham over Strathclyde, as Birmingham holds a consistent position in FT league table, where as Strathclyde entered the league table in 2007 and is already out of the table now.
I would also suggest you can also consider Edinburgh Business School if you have GMAT of 600 and above.

Thanks for the reply, I have to choose between Aston Business School and Strathclyde Business School.

Aston would be better.

Thnx for the reply...
Now its a big confusion, Duncan said strathclyde and Mamit said Aston...
I was checking 2011 batch and I found around 80% Indian students in strathclyde batch...
In Aston I found a mix of students and also got scholarship from Aston.
How is psw rule changed effects our prospects of working in UK. Do MBA students also comes under new visa rules?
