I read all the quantitative sections of the Kaplan book... it honestly wasn't very much help.
I think just doing a lot of computerized practice tests is the best thing in order to familiarize yourself with the question formats. You can get a CD ROM from the library, buy one (they come with the books typically), or buy downloads from the GMAT Web site. RUnning out of time was my big issue on the GMAT -- I wish I would have practiced more on pacing myself.
Might be best to just get it from mba.com because it would probably be most like the real test. (They should know!)
Also; if you're looking for a class you might check with local universities to see if they offer a prep class. I was turned off by the Kaplan and other test prep companies charging $800 to $1600 for a prep class! But then -- well after I took the test and started getting flyers from universities -- I learned that a local one offers it's own test prep course. It meets like four saturdays in a row for four hours at a time -- and it's only like $150! I think I would have signed up had I known about it. It's a smaller, not very well known university so I think they use the prep class as sort of a recruitment tool. Live in the midwest? I can give you the name!
