2. Let's look at Notre Dame's style of getting students. It's known that ND tends to mass send invitation emails to people who have taken the GMAT asking them to apply. I feel that such a method reeks of desperation.

By your logic Haas, Darden, Sloan, and Tuck are all desperate as well? I've received multiple emails from all of these, and several more, schools after taking the GMAT... I agree with most of what your saying, but your making a pretty bold statement here.

Well, MIT and Tuck emailed me several times, but ND has been emailing for the past 3 years, even though I've requested a removal from the email list.

To be frank, I could have a bias against ND for that reason - and yes, I'm making a very bold statement there. Maybe I'm wrong :)

But I'm curious, did Harvard or Stanford email you as well?

GMASS is a service you sign up for when you take the GMAT. Schools get your profile from them and email you if you fit the bill. H/S are part of GMASS, so I'm sure they send out emails to select applicants.. I'm older then they typically recruit. Besides your talking about the 2 very best programs out there that collectively take about 1100 students per year. My point is that all schools market; it doesn't mean they are desperate, or the program is "crap."

Well, I guess a lot of people fit Notre Dame's bill, because I've heard a lot about their emails...

But ok, fair enough, sending out emails may not necessarily mean the program is crap. But curiously, do all the schools send them out as well? Until you mentioned it, I didn't know that MIT and Tuck sent out emails, I'll check to see whether the others like Wharton, Chicago, Kellogg etc do as well too..

Thanks for the clarification.

Please let us know what you find out. Its seems like the smaller programs, regardless of rankings, are the ones sending out most of the emails; at least the ones I've received. I'm interested to know if my Theory holds water.
