Questions Regarding U21 Global's MBA Program

Hi,

I have posted this question under the asian section before but since I did not receive any replies there, I have decided to post the question here so that more people could see and perhaps provide an answer to this question.

Anyway, I was wondering if I should do my MBA course with this consortium called Univeritas 21 Global. This consortium is formed by 17 prestigious univerities all around the world. Their MBA programs (as well as other courses) are 100% delivered online. Some people are saying that employers are usually skeptical about such MBA and would rather take in students from a brick and mortar college. What do you guys think?

Just some information about myself, I am a software engineer with about 3 years of working experience. I need a program that is flexible with minimal impact on my job and is recognised worldwide.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hallo silvertype,

Well, U21 global MBA program looks nice, but a closer look at the accreditation they list shows that they are actually acredited by only one body(EFMD), which is dedicated to technology-enhanced management education programmes and is not a general one. the other one they list(AACSB International) is only approved by the Initial Accreditation Committee of AACSB, putting it officially into what is called the Pre-Accreditation phase - this means that they are not really accredited yet.
when deciding which business school is good one should also look for one of these accreditation: AASCB, EQUIS, and AMBA or preferably for all of them at once!

you should always look also at ranking of b schools, published by different bodies and magazines: http://www.find-mba.com/mba-rankings

Generally speaking, a traditional MBA program is still preferred by most employers, but this will surely change as these programs get older(they are all quit new).

Hi all,
Well, U21Global MBA is definitely a "plus" passport in my career, I'm the graduate of U21Global MBA in year 2010, I signed up the programme as I believed the education is in evolution phase, with the technology advancement, the learning process is not just teacher-student, peer-peer learning is one of the dynamic that virtual classroom offered.

For sure, I learnt more than I can imagine in U21Global MBA, and just for your information, U21Global MBA offers 18 modules (comprehensive than most of the brick and mortar schools), the case study materials mostly drawn from Harvard cases or other established academia bodies. Throughout the journey of the course, I built up the network across the region, from China, Malaysia, Singapore, UAE, to India, majority of the students were from S.E. Asia, and the course mates I know of mostly worked in Multinational Companies and holding Senior Management post, the exchange of ideas / creativity is visible during Discussion Board and Group Case Study.

For sure, if you talk about global alumni, I think strictly speaking, U21Global offers your the alumni more than any brick and mortar schools (as the courses can be completed online - anywhere, anytime).

If you talk about accreditation, well, pre-accreditation stage of AACSB, definitely a great milestone, I'm sure those schools with AACSB will also go thru' the same process, before becoming full AACSB. Accreditation is not a main concern as far as private sector (especially if we talk about MNCs job market). My past experience, I have no regret to sign up the course and completed the programme with so much fun and learning experience.

Thank you.
Regards,
James Lee
