Hey all- I am currently applying to online MBA programs to start in the summer/fall of 2021. I am an active duty US Naval Flight Officer, with a over 6 years of experience. I have about 3 years left on my contract and feel as though an online MBA would help me transition to the civilian sector. I understand that FT MBA is the best option to do this, but taking a 2 year gap in income during my 30s simply isn’t in the cards for me. My restrictions for the OMBA are that i need an asynchronous schedule due to the nature of working a flight schedule (flights at random times of the day/night, lots of travel etc.). Additionally, I’d like to build some professional contacts in the northeast, more specifically Boston/Massachusetts because that is where i want to move to. The schools I’ve been looking at that fit this Bill are:
UMass (isenberg)
Penn State
Northeastern
I understand that networking from an OMBA is difficult if not impossible, but if there is a strong professional network in Mass then it will hopefully open a couple of doors.
Any advice or anecdotal stories from graduates would be very helpful. Thank you!

Does Boston University not work for you?

The time commitment at BU could possibly work for me. I haven’t really looked too much into the program because their Online MBA is not ranked from what i can find. Would you suggest BU based on the brand name?

Its online MBA is too new to be in rankings. It has a great, powerful, network as well as a really innovative and integrated MBA.

If I were you, I would also look at Indiana. They have a strong alumni network across the US that will benefit you when you transition. That is a much stronger program than the ones you are applying to. I think you have a good chance of getting in at Indiana with your work background. Don't sell yourself short.

thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, Indiana’s synchronous class requirements don’t fit well into my work schedule. I’m an aviator so that entails a dynamic schedule, often times flying at night. University of Florida, UMASS Isenberg and Boston University are the programs I’m applying to now.
