Hello all,
I am a materials, processess, and standards engineer (metallurgist) with three B.S. degrees (aerospace engineering, physics, and astronomy). I would like to pursue an MBA with a concentration in finance at my local state university (AACSB accedited). I don't believe I will have any issues becoming admitted or excelling in the business school, but friends have mentioned other potential problems. They say it will be nearly impossible for a person with an MBA from a US school to receive offers for employment in London. Their believe is that I must know someone (have connections) within the financial community in London or I won't have any possibilities for a career in UK. Anyone have any input or guidance on this issue?

if you come under MBA scheme, you would need a very competitive GMAT to get into finance in London at the moment. While the local uni wouldnt need GMAT, you would have to do a series of test about logical thinking, detecting patterns, IQ test and maths.
And that is the first barrier that you have to overcome.
Knowing somebody is good but at the moment it is pretty tough.
However, finance is very broad, in what areas of finance would you want to work in? With your engineering background quant would be something relevant
