I got an interview invite from my top school choice... I have the option of doing it on Skype, or to fly to the school to do it in person. Flying would be expensive and I'd have to take time off of work. But I would do it if I thought it was important.

Has anybody gone through the interview process yet? I want to know how important being there in person is to make a good impression, or if it's reasonable to assume that a good impression can be made on Skype. The school says that it makes no difference to them.

Go there. There's a difference between the yield rates of those who visit and those who do not. If they think you are more likely to accept, then they are more likely to offer.

Completely agree with Duncan,

Visiting the school in person, sitting in the class, talking with faculty and current students is a different experience altogether.

You also get a feel for the school, it will help you decide between multiple schools.
