Durham vs Lancaster vs Bath vs Birmingham BS vs Strathclyde MBA - Intake Sept'24

FW

I am from India and have 5 years of experience in Fintech.

Currently, I have received Full time offers from Lancaster, Bath SOM, Birmingham Business School, and Strathclyde, with the result from Durham still pending (I might lose on Bath and Strath, given the time constraints). Also, I can not defer.

Post my MBA, I aim to work in the UK. I am seeking a practical and robust curriculum with a strong learning curve, coupled with a global reputation.

While Durham stands out in terms of reputation, it is a traditional university (please correct me if I am wrong here). Based on my assumption, I believe Bath SOM > Lancaster > BBS > Strath.

I would appreciate insights based on curriculum intensity, reputation, and post-MBA career prospects.

I need to finalize my decision by this weekend!

You should consider better schools because you are looking to work in the UK. Even at AMBS, only 53% of students find UK employment.

I assume you are avoiding schools that require the GMAT. However, these are the schools with the best career services, and which are most attractive to employers. Read: https://find-mba.com/board/gmat/why-you-should-take-the-gmat-33542

Yes, I am not planning to write the GMAT due to constraints in my current profession. I am also not considering postponing my plans for the upcoming intake. I would like to pursue the upcoming intake and make my selection based on the current options available to me.

PS I don't think Durham being a traditional university makes much of a difference. It and Birmingham are long-established Russell Group universities, along the six oldest in England.

Thank you, Duncan.
Could you also rank them on your overall understanding, it would give me much greater insights.

I think the order they are listed on the FT European Business School ranking is a good general guide. However, a MiF at a much better school will be a better path to your goal. Taking the GMAT, even with just 10 or 20 hours prep, opens up many more options.

To clarify, use the MBA column in the European ranking: https://rankings.ft.com/rankings/2954/european-business-school-rankings-2023

I would pick Durham if I had to, but a top finance masters at LBS or Oxbridge (even LSE, Imperial or UCD) could be wiser for domestic employment.

If you can't find 20 hours to prep for the GMAT as Duncan suggests, are you're sure you'll be able to manage an intensive MBA?
