Work Ex- 4.5 years at one of the worlds top 4 Steel industry in India in a Strategy related role.
GMAT - 690 ( Q 47 , V 38 )
CGPA - My univ uses the Percentage system. My Average is 68%.

Work Profile -
2010 Dec to 2012 October - Was working in the steel plant at the manufacturing unit as an Electrical Automation Engineer.
2012 Oct to Present - Working as Technical Assistant to the top most level executive at the company . Have been associated with the top level management and work on various areas including that of strategy and operations.

Extra Curricular -
1. An active Rotarian . Have been the secretary of the local Rotary Club and awarded with the Best Secretary in the zone award.
2. A Paul Haris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation.
3. Have organised various blood donation camps and other social activities at rural level.
4. Winner of the Squash Tournaments at the company for the consecutive two years.
5. Represented the state once in a National Level Squash Tournament.
6. Have headed the cultural committee while at college and have organised national level student events.
7. An environment Champion at work place. Its a title given to those who have contributed towards the environment conservation.

I shall be applying for Fall 2015 admits and shall be completing 4.5 Years of work ex by then. The B-schools that I have shortlisted as of now are
1.University of Texas, Austin - McCombs School of Business
2.University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill Kenan-Flagler Business School
3.Indiana University -Kelley School of Business
4.Carnegie Mellon University - Tepper School of Business
5.Emory University -Goizueta Business School

please advice me as to are these universities within my reach or not. Also,do you advice that I retake the GMAT?

Kelley and Kenan-Flagler feel realistic, but what are your goals?

Thank you for the reply. I am currently in more of a operational strategy role. Post MBA I wish to work in the consultancy domain.
I am targeting fall 2015. Do you suggest I retake?
How close am I to Cornell and Tepper?

I am more inclined towards applying to US B Schools.

You'd need to be above average on at least half the criteria to have an average chance.

By being above than average in atleast half the criteria, what specifically are you referring to?
My profile is mentioned above, would you suggest I retake the GMAT? Or should I start working on my essays and application?

Well, each school will assess several criteria, which they will list in their brochures. International students will have average GMATs around 50 points higher than the domestic students. I think you won't be above average on work experience or GMAT unless you improve that and other apsects.

Considering I retake my GMAT in June end, and start my application process from early July, will I have sufficient time to finish up my essays and apps? I know it depends a lot on the individual, but what is the average number of weeks people put in to essays and apps?

That really depends on the school. It's late for entry this year, at most schools but it is worth talking the time to get into a good school. Since you are planning on entry in 2015 you should be fine.

I don't think a average time for making applications is really useful. The variances will be massive.

I'm not sure that these are 'safe' schools: I'd say they are mostly schools where you are a competitive candidate, perhaps even a strong. But for a safe schools you'd need to be looking at school with a 600 average.
