No future for entrepreneurs in Spain?

The rate of entrepreneurial activity in Spain fell by 27.1% between July 2008 and July 2009 according to findings set out in the 2009 GEM Report presented today by IE Business School.

27%?!

I understand that with the bureaucracy and the family-oriented nature of business, it's always been fairly difficult for expats to start businesses. But with this significant drop, I'd say it's just about impossible.

I wonder if IE can justify keeping its "Venture Lab" open.

um, isn't this statistic justification for creating more efforts, such as the Venture Lab, to spur more entrepreneurship in Spain?

Good point.

The question is where is the point where it becomes not viable? I guess it depends on how much it costs IE to fund the venture lab.

However, I do think it is good that IE has been partnering with Babson in its efforts, because the spirit of entrepreneurship is only strengthened by international cooperation.
