Hi All,
It's a good idea to have a forum for people joining FT MBA course at GBS coming Sept (2010).
If we have some folks here, lets start interacting!

Hi Varun,

So are you joining GBS this Sept? What is your profile? Also share your views about GBS and the motivations behind joining GBS!
Cheers!

Hi varun,
Good to know about you !
I have about 5 years of work exp. mostly into Business Development, Strategy and Consulting. I have worked for IT and Consulting firms. Have dealt with german clients and partners in my jobs.
My intention is to get an academic break and get into Strategy roles in the European areas.
I have not started my Visa process, I'm waiting for some documents. Have you started your Visa process?
I believe you should be comfortable with German language, I have done only A1 fron Goethe Institut, i wish I had leant it more:(

Hey VarunB and Bharat
Congrats for the admit. I am from India too and have been offered an admit (5 years of Product Analyst role in IT companies). I have to take a decision this week (financial parameters are the only consideration, the program looks pretty good)
What other institutes did you apply ?
Everything about the program and school looks good, though I am not very sure about the old beast which keeps on haunting again and again - "Job scene" !!
Your input guys ...?
Like you I too would be done by just A1 level by aug-sep.
Karan

Hello Karan,
Yes i can understand the financial aspect as I am also in the process of arranging the loan. But job prospect given your IT experience should not be much of an issue given you will get little more comfortable with the local language. At least that is the input I have got from the students of the current batch. I was aiming for HHL and Mannheim apart from this program.

Hi Karan,
I always try to look at ROI befor investing my money / efforts. But in this case I would not be able to measure the ROI as measuring goals after MBA is very difficult for me atleast.
Employability is always a challenge and it is highly dependent on the students how do they choose and institute and make best out of it. My focus at this moment is to do Mba at a global place with good reputation and which is not costly. GBS fits into my requirements. Manheim was a temptation but looking at the costs I decided to try only for GBS.
Difficult to comment about employment as there are many dependencies....
(and about the scholorships last year - GBS was debuting its Ft program this year I have learnt that they are getting a kool response. and it appears that mostly Indians are attracted to this program)
@ Varun - All the best for Manheim... its a nice institute if you can manage the financials from loan / scholorships

Hey Bharat,
I totally agree, nothing judges better than ROI, but that is difficult to apply to an MBA course. Aspirations and plans vary from person to person.
Majority of class at Goethe seems to be of Indian natinality (and not many of them would be working outside the technology realm). Wouldnt that effect the diversity of the batch, one critical parameter that defines a global mba ..?

I agree....
Last year I believe there were about 8-9 from India (I'm not sure though) out of 29/30. So it was a decent mix. If you take any other institute you will find similar or greater ratio of Indians participating in the course. (infact its a global trend)
Last year it is believed that many courses could not reach their max capacity and GBS that way performed well.
This year I know atleast 3 of us here and some one-two enquiries somewhere else who mightt join GBS.
I hope that ppl get a good international mix, and yeah IT exp might sound too generic to Indians but its not that common in Europe atleast.
I still believe that we'll get a good mix at GBS.

Check out the LinkedIn group for GBS. You will have to ask for permission to join the group. Just let the administrator know that you are a candidate for next year's class. The discussion forum has not been very lively recently, but if new students start asking questions then current students and alumni are likely to answer.

Hi,
If anyone of you have started the Visa process? I checked the list of required documents and it says we need the German translation for the Loan approval letter. I have checked with the consulate today and they have informed me that i need to get it translated from the Max Muller Bhavan, so I thought i will share it with you guys too.
Cheers,
Varun

Hi Varun,
I too have submitted my application few days before, however the Consulate at Mumbai did not ask for any German translation.
I think the processes are different for every consulate center.
Cheers
