I am from Senegal and I plan to do an MBA in Europe. Funding is a big issue, who knows about grants specially for students from African countries?

Hello. You should look for possibilities of funding your MBA in France. French insitutions are the most likely to offer grants for students from Senegal, for obvious historical reasons. If you excell with good results in your previous studies it should be possible to get funding.

Bonjour, can you name me some institutions to contact for this or should I get in touch directly with Ministère de l'éducation?
Merci!

Bonjour Sisse,
First step for you should be to contact the French Embassy in your country. The coopération service offers scholarships for students from Senegal willing to study in France on the level of 3e cycle.
But I'm sure that they can as well provide information and guide you towards other possibilities of funding/scholarships for studies in France. Good luck!

Hello Laurent, that was a great information. They really have a very good service at ambassade de France helping how apply for scholarship.
Do you or anyone know about scholarships to study in other European countries, maybe by governments or other insitutions? I imagine there is a lot less then for France, but I would still be very interested.

Hello Sisse, I'm sorry, but the French Embassy is the only idea I had. Good luck!

Hello Sisse,
if you're interested in studying in Skandinavia, the best Danish b-school is CBS, info about scholarships you find here:
http://ftmba.mba.dk/index.aspx?articleid=61
But very limited, its nothing compared to the funding possibilities Stockholm School of Economics would have for a student from an African country like you.

The scholarship program of Stockholm School of Economics is really interesting! I will definitely apply there.
Now I'll do some detailed research because I'm wondering if there are other European b-schools proposing these kind of special scholarships for students from poorer countries like me!

Sisse, candidate profile for scholarships of Stockholm School of Economics is quite unique I think!
Usually schools themselves offer a very limited number of scholarships (eg 2 or 3) for students with outstanding results, like CBS mentioned by Suzy above.
In this sense as well Helsinki School of Economics:

Hello guys,
Thanks for that, and here is what I found (as well to inform other students from Africa):
Generally speaking schools offer scholarships for brilliant students with outstanding study results/CV only. I didn't find any other school with a program like CBS, particularly aiming at students like me from poor countries for whom its difficult to afford the MBA.
Otherwise governments have interesting scholarship programs, besides France f.ex.:
The Dutch Ministry of Education and Sciences offers scholarships covering costs of living expenses within the framework of cultural agreements between the Netherlands and other countries. Information is available from the Dutch embassy or consulate in your country or from the Nuffic website.

I just came across this very interesting thread (even though I'm not from Africa, but from Indonesia).
This www.grantfinder.nl is a great research tool! Does something like this exist for other countries as well, apart from NL?
For candidates from African countries the following could be interesting:
- Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program
- Eric Bleumink Fund, to study University of Groningen
- NFP Fellowships for Master's Degree Programmes
But there are many more, just have a look!

It seems that the Northern countries, Scandianvia and Netherlands, are more concerned about us students from Africa or Asia. What about Germany??
If you consider Spain, I'd like to remind you all that deadline for application for spanish government scholarship is dec. 31, as Noya kindly let us know in her post above, look at: www.becasmae.es

well i am intending to study in europe and have a a good academic background with cgpa of 3.51 at a banscal eof 4 in my bachelors what are the criteria for scholarships
Posted Apr 09, 2008 13:08
Criteria vary from country to country, school to school. The only thing you can really do it go to the schools' individual websites and see what they say, or contact them directly. It's also worth having a look at their alumni sections, as they might contain details of how people funded their studies. Sometimes individuals will also set up special scholarship funds for people studying particular areas or from particular parts of the world. You could try contacting your local education authority in case they offer anything, and might also consider some form of corporate sponsorship if you are already in employment. Increasingly students tend to combine scholarship income from a variety of sources simultaneously rather than from just one source. Bear in mind, too, that many universities have what (in England, at least) are referred to as 'Hardship Funds', though these can range from a few thousand pounds - or their equivalent - to the hundreds, sometimes even less.

Oh, and I should have said: keep an eye out on the 'News' section of the homepage here. There are often links to funding opportunities and so forth which could be worth taking a look at.
