Hofstra OR Baruch

AmitKhoje

I have been accepted at Baruch (CUNY - New York) as well as Hofstra (New York Hempstead) for their fall 2009 full time honors MBA program in Information Technology.

Also Hofstra has given me USD 20,000 scholarship in the tuition fees. Baruch hasn't given any.

Now with this scenario, which school should I prefer?
I know that the placement scene in Baruch (for accounting and finance) is good but will that help in today's scenario and for my concentration in Information Technology?

I find the scholarship at Hofstra very much lucrative.
Anybody can post the reviews about Hofstra University MBA program?

Your suggestions will definitely help me take the best decision.

Congrats! I'm currently applying to the Zarb School, I started so late that I almost missed all the deadlines for other schools, including Baruch.

To your question, first, did you get accepted by Baruch's honor MBA program? I think that program is free. So in terms of money, it's $0 VS $8,000 (after the $20,000 scholarship)?

Where did you go for undergraduate? I've been to Hofstra and its business school a couple of times, everything was nice. However, my friends keep on telling me that Baruch has the best benefit/price ratio if you are a NYS resident, plus, you would have the city experience. Although it's more tiring and hectic than Long Island is, but the city experience will definitely pay off in the long-run. I went to Cornell for UG, and I don't like the location.

Don't know if it helps, but I would go for Baruch.

Are you applying to the day-time MBA program? I think 650+ would qualify you for scholarships. btw, what do you think about hofstra? people tell me apply to more places next year, but I think hofstra is a good fit.

I'm pretty sure applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but the best way to find this information is to check the school's website or contact them directly.

Baruch is better academically, thats where Harry Markowitz used to teach for years.

Hofstra is on the move though and has the money to compete with NYU in 10 yrs or so, those are basically Hofstra's presidents words, they even cancelled their football program to focus on academics.

Not many people know this, Hofstra used to be part of NYU, it was NYU's college on Long Island thats how it started, then they went their separate ways.

Hello All,

I am graduating Baruch this summer and have applied and been accepted into both the MS in Tax at Hofstra & Baruch. Baruch is great but the real thing is that I commute from Long Island and it's very tiring after a while. Yes, I always studied on the train and for a while enjoyed it but for grad school it kills my whole day getting in by 5 and having class till 8 or 10. I do not plan to move to the city because in essence it will cost more than Hofstra.
My friends and professors are desperately trying to convince me to go to Baruch for grad because they believe it's reputation is far better than Hofstra. However after visiting Hofstra the same companies recruit at each college. I'm stuck and can't make up my mind and I wish the money were simply the answer. I want a good education but more so want to completely secure with my choice before I decide where to get it. Can anyone give their opinion?

Thank you
