Choosing Schools for my profile (Female with an inclination towards marketing)

Ana.I

Hi Duncan,

I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions based on my profile. I have seen several posts on profiles of Indian Males with IT backgrounds however haven't found too much information on women with marketing backgrounds.

I am an Indian Girl with 5 years of work experience. My GMAT score is 650 (Q-41, V-39) and TOEFL (iBT) score of 119/120.

Prior to this, I have completed my graduation in Management studies and Masters in Commerce.

I have worked in an international marketing research firm for 3 years. During this time, I have managed a team of 30 and have worked with top brands and clients from across the world. I also have had the opportunity to work on an International project for a couple of months.

Post my research stint, I have worked with a leading Media Agency for 2 years. Again, I have worked with top FMCG brands as my clients and have been lucky enough to win several national and international media and marketing awards which I am hoping will add some weight to my CV. Both years included managerial experience.

Total work experience managing people has been 4 out of my 5 years since I got early growth in my career due to a strong first year performance.

Apart from this, I have taught high school children management studies for a full academic year and am currently pursing some marketing certification courses from some top US Universities.

Ideally, I would love to join a US university for an MBA which has a strong marketing concentration however based on your earlier posts I find that maybe opting for a General MBA at this point would be the wiser choice.

Since my GMAT score is not that strong i suspect I would have to consider Ties 3 or 4 schools that you have posted but was wondering if you could make any strong suggestions based on my profile.

I would really appreciate your help as I start my journey to finding a good MBA school.

Thank you.

Looking at this list http://www.find-mba.com/specializations/21/marketing I am reminded that US schools are not the only option. Nanyang and Manchester might be worth looking at. In the US, Rutgers and Washington look possible. You're a strong candidate, and I think you know that the GMAT is holding you back. Why not work on that?

Considering your background in market research, also look at Georgia.
