Recommended literature before starting a MBA?

Cristobal

Hi!

Well, as the topic title says, I wanted to ask, specially to those that are currently studying a MBA, or those who already finished one, to any recommendation for literature to read before starting this programme.

I will start studying one on September, so would be glad to have any recommendation on what to read in order to prepare myself.

I dont mean anything specific, like reading a calculus book or corporate finances, but something more general.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

I don't understand what non-specific sort of recommendation you would like. Read about ethics?

How funny Duncan.
No, not ethics.

There are some books, that are recommended on some websites to be read before starting a MBA, or in parallel, like:

- The Personal MBA, by Josh Kaufman.
- The 10-Day MBA, by Steven Silbiger- How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie
- Thinking Fast and Slow, by Daniel Kahneman
And many others.

Whatever, i'm pretty sure you understood perfectly my point, but you are just trying to be funny.
Thank you for nothing.

I was looking for some pre-enrolment reading lists and came across these:

I’d start with Financial Intelligence by Berman & Knight and something light from Kotler like Ten Deadly Marketing Sins.  Your business school will probably provide reading lists before you start.

Before even considering the MBA I enjoyed anything by Jim Collins, Beyond Entrepreneurship or How The Mighty Fall. Most people go for Good to Great but I found more value in the other two.

I very rarely buy books at full price. EBay is great!

Maybe try Snapshots from Hell: The Making of an MBA. It's based on a first year MBA student's experience at Stanford. It was published in the mid-2000s and I read it when I was thinking of doing an MBA back then. If you search, I am sure you'll find newer equivalents and maybe one for the geographic region you will be studying in.
