Lawyer from Brazil

Hi all.

I am a Brazilian lawyer with 3 years experience, working during all this period as in-house in the legal department of a large Brazilian bank.

I believe that like some other people with my profile, my primary goal is to leave Brazil and be able to get good jobs in developed countries including but not limited to the US, Canada, UK, and Australia (excluded other European countries because of the language issues).

And I know that working as a lawyer in other countries is highly unlikely, due to the need of a JD and exam approvals to be enrolled with its professional associations. That is why I’m willing to change industry to work in finance/IB.

That said, I believe an MBA in an internationally renowned BS is the best way to go, right?

In which country would it be best to study (please suggest only english taught MBAs)? Which BS MBA diploma would give me that flexibility to get good jobs in finance/IB in these kind of countries?

Finally, is it possible for a person with my profile (Brazilian, no URM, no stellar professional or academic achievements, not engineering/IT/consulting background) to join MBAs at that kind of BS?

What role in the finance industry would you be most valuable at? A masters in finance might give you many more financial skills than an MBA.

As a lawyer (considering my lack of skills in quant) I think I would be most valuable in investment banking roles.

Understood about what I might learn in a masters  in finance, but from a recruiter perspective, is a masters in finance sufficient for a career change like that? I’ve always heard that it’s only possible through a 2y full-time MBA program.

Investment banking is an industry, not a role. Suppose you want a role in a financial function rather than a role in legal (which would be my recommendation). In that case, a MiF will give you a much better foundation, especially if you find one that gives you the CFA level 1 certification.
