Monash MBA Double Degree

Orel

I live in Mexico and I am interested in an MBA in Australia, Iknow that AGSM and MBS are the top two options but the Monash program sounds very interesting in terms of long term investment. How good is Monash as a possible option?

For me Monash is the good third option after the 2 top schools you mention. It's ranked 49 in the Economiist ranking for instance.
If you intend to work outside Australia though, you should do some research on job opportunities in your field, holding a Monash MBA.

Hi Orel,

I wonder whether you decided for Monash University or another university, can you give your impressions?

I live in MX and plan to move next year to Australia.

Thanks

what is your background?

monash is respected in Pacific islands NZ and Aussie.

In Asia it is a good name and is known at the rest of the world

however, a good degree from USA or UK surely outvalues Monash. Since you are from Mexico USA is a convinient choice. But if you want to look further, Europe esp. UK is a great choice. Have a look at the uk forum for my previous posts.

Some schools have an exchange with Aussie unis as well so you can put that on the CV.

I wouldnt recommend double degree esp mba it seems like you dont have concentrations and it less clear about your strengths and what do you want for your career.

MBA is not a golden key like many would think. With general breadth but not depth about any areas, you soon find yourself outweighted by ppl in a certain academic disciplines

Hi everyone,

I had the opportunity to talk to one of the admissions personnel @ Monash. For obvious reasons I was looking for a career report of its students. I was told that students coming out of Monash are mostly company sponsored and do not need placement assisstance. Also they do not provide with such assisstance because that would lure the students away from employers who have sposored their courses in the first place.
Take That!!!!
So, if you do want to toil it out on your own in a foreign country then go for Monash.
I an Indian living in USA and know that Monash is given a very glossy name in India by the educational agents who work with the University. But the fact is that most good companies in India consider it to be a Tier 3 or at the best a Tier 2 program. It is never in the same league with a good US or UK degree.
Having said all that, it's purely my personal opinion and is based on my personal understanding.

I disagree, I'm a UK citizen and I've heard nothing but good things about Monash. You're MBA is what you make of it. If you're in a classroom surrounded by people who've already got jobs and are on a company sponsored MBA, surely you could use this network of employed people to help get yourself a placement??

Schools help get placements but I'd be wary of expecting to rely too much on your schools help to get one.

I've never thought of Monash as a tier 3 uni either. It's got a really good reputation in the UK, and people have heard of it and respect it, that's the most important thing. They also have some pretty good exchange options if you can do that.

I am not aware of Monash's reputation in UK.
What I was most perturbed was the schools blatant way of expressing their unwillingness to help their students in finding jobs. I agree with you on the fact that post MBA job is not the school's responsibility but is surely an important aspect that allows them to be favorites with overseas students.
In India, no body but the university agents talk about Monash. It might be lack of awareness about the good works the school has done (assuming they have) but continues to be a fact.

I think that's more a problem with Australian schools in general - they're a bit underrepresented on a global scale at the moment because not many people know about them. That might change soon though, the more the programs are accredited by international organizations.
