McGill raising fees?

So it looks like McGill is going to go ahead and try to privatize its MBA program, forgoing all government subsidies and charging the students instead.

The rate increase? From $1700 to about $30000.

That used to be an affordable option for students looking for Canadian programs, but I'm not sure about that anymore.

There are some more developments in the McGill tuition-raising controversy.

The Quebec government is upset about it, apparently - and is threatening to withdraw the tuition subsidies it provides - about $3000 per student.

I think that McGill knows what it's doing - in that $3,000 per student doesn't go very far compared to the $30,000 it plans to charge if the privatization goes through. I doubt that the Quebec government will be able to do anything about it.

But, it's too bad that MBA programs have turned into tuition arms races - in that comparable programs in Canada cost much more than the once-affordable McGill program did.

People got to get paid, I guess.
