From academia to business / management

Hello everybody! I have a predicament that I need some help with. I am completing a postdoc in the next year and I am looking at the next stage of my career.

I don't want to stay in academia. I'm pretty much over it at this point. I would like to transition into the private sector.

To do so I am thinking about doing an MBA (one year max) in order to make myself more 'marketable' as management.

My questions:

- is this is legitimate option and do many pursue this path. I see from other discussions that many are in the private sector.
- will my postdoctoral work be considered as work experience if I apply for an MBA?

I was a knowledge transfer researcher for City Uni London for 2 years and then applied to excellent European full time MBAs. Almost all offered me places. Your work experience will be valued.

The majority of folks who apply to MBAs are probably going to have background in industry. In some ways though, that's a blessing for you, because your work experience as a postdoc would add diversity to most MBA cohorts.

However, you should make sure you have clearly defined career goals going into the application process: what do you want to do, and why does an MBA make sense for your chosen path?

That's somewhat of a relief to know that my experience will be valued. I will make sure I clearly define my career goals. Appreciate the advice.
