I am going to do an MBA next year. Will be aiming for Wharton, Columbia, or potentially LBS.
Currently working in tech but I want to do a big shift into IB. Some people I have spoken with said that it's virtually impossible to get into IB unless you already have experience (most people it seems get into IB after undergrad and then do their MBAs.)
Do I have a chance? I would do an internship at an IB firm if possible.
Can I get into Investment Banking post-MBA if I've never worked in the industry?

Yes it's easier to do so after a top undergrad However it won't be too hard to make that switch after an mba from Wharton, HBS etc.
If you want to get a job in investment banking and have strong work experience in tech why not aim for quant roles and get an MFE on the side from UC Berkeley etc?

It's a comparatively small / niche industry that values previous work in the field, so in that sense anybody who has experience plus a top MBA should have better odds.
An internship would help, especially in the firm where you want to work. During the MBA, and even before, do as much networking as you can.
