That is not a good school. I suggest you limit yourself to schools with the legal right to issue degrees in the country where you will study.

Well, that is a little tricky since the process differs from country to country. In the case of Germany, there is a central database: http://www.hochschulkompass.de/en/higher-education-institutions/search-for-a-higher-education-institution.html

Generally, I could suggest you start with the ministry of education website. Often there are central websites, often with names like study-in-_countryname_.com which are state-sponsored. Sometimes there is a state-recognised accreditation body. A good rule of thumb is to look for one of the three accreditation bodies as well: EQUIS/EFMD, AMBA and AACSB.

Personal networking is key in Brazil. If you already have a network in Brazil, then the MIT-Lisbon program or one of the top Spanish schools will provide a good balance between a good education and a good network (See also How to use LinkedIn to find the best school www.find-mba.com/board/33571). However, if you are not already someone with a network in Brazil, then you will need to study there and focus on building your network.

Why don't you think about what you want to do, and what sort of course will best suit you? IMD is very intensive, while the education at HEC is more extensive, and gives more flexibility. The student quality is higher at IMD and, f you want higher salary, that is a better school.

I used the FT ranking, which includes US data. It's just that none of the US schools get into the top 20 using my method. You could use the same data, and the same approach, but exclude the non-US schools.

I am interested in the UK schools for studying for a MBA. My career goal after the graduation is to work in the oil & gas industry. One of the leading consultancies could be an option too. I have 12 years of work experience in communications, external affairs, business development, and government relations - including working for an international oil company. And I'd like to find a job in the UK after the graduation.

I have done my research and now am looking at Bath, Durham, Newcastle, Robert Gordon University, and the University of Glasgow. I spoke recently to an international MBA student at Bath, who said that the school's career development service and students' placement are extremely poor. If one looks at the schools' websites, they all say how great they are with their career development support and job placements.

Can you please share your expert view on which one from Bath, Durham, Newcastle, Robert Gordon University, and the University of Glasgow business schools would be best to choose and why.

Hi Carina,

You can search the board to read my and others' comments on these schools. I think you can ask yourself, against what standard is the student at Bath judging? Unlike the other schools, it gets into the top 20 list. Indeed, every European school's placement is poor compared to - for example - a top Indian school where most students are placed in the first half of the course. However, the data show that the Bath MBA gets good outcomes. It is not likely that its services are worse than most of the other schools you mention.

I am not sure which firms you consider to be "the leading consultancies" but the firms I consider to be the leaders will not hire from the MBAs you mention. They will go to much better schools.

I tried the Linkedin link and although I have not been able to use the advanced search I did a generic search for people whose records show MBA, the schools of my interest, and industry-wise either oil&gas and management consulting. I am not sure if this search produced results in a smart way or simply gave a generic match (e.g. includes people who have MBA not from those schools but hold BSc/BA/MA/MSc degrees from the schools of interest). My search showed the following results in terms of MBA population:

While I enjoy working in the oil & gas industry and it would be great to get a job in it after the MBA, the industry has a cyclical nature. Hence, my thinking is to get MBA from a highly ranked business school in the UK to improve my employability/marketability across a wider range of sectors.

Durham, which is a Russell Group and triple accredited, and Bath, double accredited, have very good rankings. Newcastle is a Russell Group and triple accredited but lower ranked than Durham and Bath. It seems to have been in somewhat declining ranking trend in recent years, according to CUG.

RGU's MBA is not ranked in the FT's Global MBA 2015. CUG ranks RGU much lower than the other three in business and management studies. RGU as a whole, not its business school or MBA programme, has a UK top rank in employability of its graduates.

Given all the above and considering that I will get some financial support to equalise the course fees at the above universities for me, which ones and in what order you would recommend?
