Level seven is an ordinary bachelor's degree; level eight is an honours' degree.

And certainly, if you're looking at the MBA programs in Ireland that would be worth your time and money (Trinity or Smurfit, mainly) then they'll require work experience as well, no?

Hello
I am coming a little late to the MBA party this year. Can anyone help me with some information on Trinity and the Ireland market? I have spoken with a handful of alumni on linkedin and surprisingly I have received some negative feedback on their program. I am coming with 15 yrs leadership and sales experience in the medical device sector, specializing in startup companies. From my research, there are quite a few large device companies already there and many startups. Is that a fair picture of the medical device landscape? After my MBA I would like to stay and help the startups build their business and help bring it globally. With that in mind, is Trinity a good school to get my MBA from and meet my goals? Other than the obvious, what hurdles can I expect to come across in trying to get a job there?
Thank you for your time and assistance.

I am from the states. All but two of the top medical device companies have headquarters there. These companies have fostered a large pool of startups in Ireland. Also, I like that Enterprise Ireland has been developed to help support these innovative companies. I have helped four companies create markets and grow to acquisition. Also, I have helped one grow to being a market leader. I want to come in and help some of the startups there realize their goals. Another reason is the EU/US free trade talks going on. Ireland seems to be the conduit between the US and the EU. I think when this agreement gets ratified even more companies are going to sprout up there. I want to be there when this happens.
Thanks Duncan

I don't understand why you want to be in Ireland rather than the US, or how an MBA would benefit you. Considering your background, and the global nature of the industry, I would use this approach How to use LinkedIn to find the best school www.find-mba.com/board/33571
It suggests your target MBAs should be Dartmouth, Insead, UPenn, UCLA or Virginia.
In Ireland, the only MBA with several people in medical devices seems to be National University of Ireland, Galway, - and that is an executive programme.

Hello Duncan,
My background is in science. I don't have a formal business education. I need to get a better grasp on finance, accounting etc.. in a business setting. I chose Ireland for the reasons stated above. My current company doesn't have a global footprint. I have a specialty in vertical growth companies. I am looking to Trinity to get a general MBA while giving me exposure to the international market place. I like that they have an older student body and a smaller cohort. Post grad, I would like the opportunity to stay in Ireland and apply what I have learned to the markets there. I have alot to offer to emerging companies there. Do you not think Trinity can help me reach my goals?

No, I really don't think that's be best way to meet your goals. Do your MBA at one of the five schools I listed; get a role in the sort of organisation which will be a client of those Irish start-ups; build your network and personal profile; and then come into Ireland with some relationships with potential investors and channel partners.
