Wed Mar 18, 2009 03:37 PM Is LaTrobe accredited? i don't think so... - i have looked in their website, and also took a look at the nice colorful prospect(www.latrobe.edu.au/gsm/assets/downloads/GSM_2009_P…) - couldn't find anything. if a B school information material doesn't say anything about accreditation, it usually means it's not accredited!(or at least not with good ones). try contacting them and ask. |

Latrobe is a real public university with multiple campus. I used to live in Bundoora. The only discipline they did not have was Medicine. They now have law as well.Tue Jul 28, 2009 12:54 AM But whatever you consider, do not consider Chifley Business School although they may market their offerings targeted at prospects from India and Sri Lanka origins www.find-mba.com/board/5261/ [Edited by link updater on 28 Jul 2009] |

the question was, is la tatrobe accredited, not if it is a real school.....Mon Aug 10, 2009 01:34 PM being a university doesn't really rid it of having to be accredited - in a way, it only makes it more suspicious when it is not! i would still suggest calling or mailing them for the information - calling may be a better way, as it is easier to notice if they are trying to hide something. |

Mon Aug 10, 2009 03:28 PM the question was, is la tatrobe accredited, not if it is a real school..... I beg to differ. Calling ? who would you reach ? Can you trust a person over the phone ? Will you trust someone over the phone ? A mail is definitely better. Latrobe is a chartered unviersity funded by Australia Government. Does it need any more accreditation or certification by 3rd party. may be you have not been exposed to this university. but I have been there many times. I rest my argument, case in point, that I would never trust schools like Chifley Business Schools (which offers MBA) but certainly not a real university. I wouldn't call it a diploma mill, but a very fine line in between, may give some people the same perception. Latrobe is a real university. Disclaimer: I graduated from Deakin University (on campus) in Geelong. I recently completed my M.InfoTech from Charles Sturt University (Wagga Wagga). I have been admitted to a MBA program jointly run by Deakin Uni/APESMA (now Chifley) in 1995-6 because of its affiliation to my old university. I regretted it until this day... because Chifley Business School has the weakest "accreditation" per se. They call themselves B-School - go figure. I have recently paid for my tuition fees to University of Sunderland (Newcastle, UK) for finishing my MBA - which is what it is worth. a real university MBA that requires me to complete the rest of the research modules and a dissertation. Something I am more interested in then other MBAs which is more coursework/exams. Mailing and made inquiries is acceptable Phoning in makes no sense Accreditation by 3rd Party is debatable The important thing is that it is a chartered university. |

What you are saying is true, if he is only planing to work in Australia(and maybe also some neighboring Islands) after graduation. although i am sure it is a great university, an MBA degree should be from a school the name of which a future employer would recognize, or at least a school which he can see by goggling for rankings and accreditation. i know this doesn't seem to be fair - but i am pretty sure that is how things work.Mon Aug 10, 2009 03:46 PM and as for the question of trusting a person over the phone - well, i think you can tell a lot just by the ton of voice. this of course doesn't say you shouldn't also mail them - at best, do both! but you should always read what they say carefully, and have a good amount of doubt/be willing to do some fact checking afterwards. |
