CAREER MOVE INTO FASHION/LUXURY INDUSTRY
Wed Sep 16, 2009 05:23 PM
Hi to everyone, I hope u could help me out with this dilemma:

I am 31yo Spanish woman, I have a BA HONS in Journalism, an Advanced Program in Clients Management and a Master in Marketing and Business Management (GESCO), plus 2 years work experience in the UK (back office in private banking). I have always been very keen on continuing my education after university, in learning English, etc... generally speaking, in being well prepared to find my right career pace....but somehow I haven't manage to get into the industry that really suit me, and I am kind of lost! For instance, I am currently working in the IT Industry in Spain but I need a career change urgently!.

I realised I want to go into fashion and luxury brand management because I know I have the skills and potential, but I don't have experience neither specific education in this field to make the move. I believe I should start getting an international recognized specialised estudies to help me moving toward this sector, so I am looking for a Program in New York or London. Here is my question then, shall I go for a Global Fashion Marketing Management Master or any other fashion Master or for a MBA in Luxury Brands Management? Since I already have studied Marketing Management I am not sure what will be the best approach to it......... therefore I will really appreciate any advice on this career move! Many thanks in Advanced!

Sounds like you need to decide between location and specialization, because unfortunately I'm not sure there's much in terms of a specialized fashion or luxury MBA in those places you mentioned - London or New York. London College of Fashion was going to offer an MBA - not sure if it followed through on those plans.

Another option you might consider is SDA Bocconi in Milan, which is an English-language MBA, and an extremely good one at that. You would be getting a general MBA, but I think the school is pretty connected to the local fashion industry.
