Carlos III de Madrid - Yes or No!!
Hello L&G!! Mon Jun 22, 2009 09:09 AM I have approxmately 12 hours to make a decission on UC3M. I have got the offer letter for admission to UC3M Full Time MBA (English) 09-10 starting this September. I have gone through almost all postings on the board and definately its a great school. The fees are less compared to other schools in Spain or rest of Europe. However, its a huge amount for me. But I still want to go for it since its the only school in the fees range in Europe that I could find. I do not have any GMAT, English Tests or other formal requirements. I am an Indian with a BHM Degree (4yrs) and 4 yrs hotel industry expeience in various levels up to junior management level. If you know of any other school that would be of similar range (Fees and Quality) to UC3M, please let me know. Or if you think I should go for UC3M, please give me a YES!! I live in the US and there are decent programs in the same price range here.. I'm sure there are others in Europe, too. But, they are not neccessarily better than Carlos III. PS you might look at this post i made about relatively "affordable MBAs" in the US: www.find-mba.com/board/9649 I looked up the prices of some ranked state-funded schools in the US. The best deal out of the ones I looked up was the University of Pittsburgh Katz School of Business. The price is $25,000 a year (about 18,000 euros..) However, it is probably a two year program so it would be double that in total. That is the price for a highly ranked school. There are other accredited programs that are not ranked but are cheaper. For example, Cleveland State University, which is AACSB accredited but not ranked, is priced at $15,656 for their one-year accelerated MBA program. That's about 11,000 euros. Their two year program is about $10,000 a year, so total around $20,000; or 14,500 euros. Basically; you pay for the prestige of the program. Some say going to an elite, expensive school is worth it because of the connections you will make... I think Carlos III is a good balance. It seems to be well-respected, despite it's low price. can somebosy plzz tell me how long do the uc3m admission committe take in deciding whether u r in or out...also the mba(english) at uc3m looks like classes r only held int he evenings...does any one have an idea whether it is a full time or part time...also any idea of how many hours in a week a student is allowed to work if he is non eu resident..

Hey anujs.Sun Jun 28, 2009 11:25 PM I can't remember how long they took I'm afraid - I think it was a few weeks. Give them a call and find out! The course is full time. Course load (including contact time and assignments) is 1500+ hrs between Mid September and July. Classes are mostly evenings except Fridays which are during the day, however there is quite a lot of work and a lot of group activities (particularly in the second and third terms), so you need to consider that when looking at work options, or you will 1) bomb out, and 2) give yourself a hernia in the process! You can probably fit something in though if you are organised, and if you think you are likely to cope with the work well. Factors to consider for this are 1) your previous business experience and level of business education 2) your level of English 3) your level of maths 4) how fast a learner you are 5) how efficient you are generally. There is a rule about how many hours one can work in a formal student placement, as this is regulated by Spanish employment & immigration laws. Other work will of course be subject to the usual visas and this may be another thing to check with the university direct. Some people do placements, others do freelance work, others do extra courses (especially Spanish classes), others do all three, and others spend extra time at cafes and terraces!! Note it gets intense at times though, particularly after the first term, and to get the best from the course (and to get through, have no resits, and get good marks) you don't want too many distractions. I did some Spanish courses and a little freelance work, but didn't want to distract myself too much from the MBA. Hope this helps!! My penultimate exam is tomorrow, so wish me luck!! |

hi ppl, i am from india,bangalore, and i got offer letter recently, any one joining this year 2009-2010 class, le me knw...Wed Jul 15, 2009 11:15 AM i feel Carlos has its own advantages like AMBA accreditation,which only 5 Spanish schools have,so u will study with ppl who have good work experience rated top spanish school in any website you check,faculty are good, heard likes from MIT n Harvard.+ cost effective , and no gmat or IELTS, thats great,,, it is not well known may be bcoz it in getafe,and uni started only in 1989, althou jus 1 hour from madrid...so living in madrid would be cool, i am planning to do tht. disadvantages is, classes r in evening, 5 to 8pm,english version, like UK gives 3 year work permit after MBA, spain does not give, language prob, since ppl speak only spain. all de best,anyone joining for MBA 2009-2010 and let me know about the same. also you can write me directly at sahibzada.masood@gmail.com |
